Third Quarter Foreclosures almost double

U.S. residential foreclosure filings nearly doubled during the third quarter compared to the previous year.

Foreclosure filings from July to September rose to 635,159, meaning 1 in every 196 households filed for foreclosure.  That represents a 30 percent jump from the second quarter in 2007 and nearly double the third quarter of 2006.

The level climbed in 45 out of 50 states in the third quarter, led by Nevada, California, and Florida.  Florida foreclosures rose more than 50 percent compared to the second quarter, with 86,,645 filings.  That’s more than double third quarter from a year earlier.
