Miami-Dade Mortgage Task Force reports progress

Miami Mayor Carlos Alvarez’s Mortgage Fraud Task Force met Wednesday to discuss their progress on the war against real estate fraud in South Florida.

The Miami Mortgage Fraud Task Force was launched in September and Wednesday marked their second meeting.

According to Glenn Theobald, task force chairman and chief legal counsel for the Miami-Dade Police, said that mrotgage fraud complaints received by police had doubled from 200 to 400 since the task force was formed.

According to Miami-Dade Sgt Richard Davis, “Law enforcement is still working out the details for a major fraud tracking system that would allow police departments and regulators to share information on open cases.”

The court system is hosting lectures to prepare judges for the anticipated influx of cases stemming from the new mortgage fraud law which took place October 1st according to Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge Maria Korvick
