Hillsborough man pleads guilty to mortgage fraud
The Florida attorney general’s office announced on Monday that Michael Danish of Hillsborough County, who was arrested earlier this year for running a mortgage fraud scheme, has pleaded guilty.Danish was arrested in February after state investigators said he took advantage of more than 20 people whom were looking to refinance their mortgages with Danish for new air conditioning units.According to the investigators, Danish would take out larger loans than the borrowers requested, take out loans without the borrowers’ consent, and collect third-party checks and keep the money for himself. Danish took over $400,000 from his victims. According to the attorney general’s office,Danish pleaded guilty to aggravated white-collar crime, failure to disburse funds in accordance with agreements and notary fraud.
