Editorial: Property Tax Plan Won’t Help Homeowners
On top of sky-high Florida mortgage costs, there’s the little problem of escalating property taxes that everyone seems to have an opinion about.
Jayson Rubin of Boca Raton expresses his views on the complex property tax situation in the following editorial to the South Florida-Sun-Sentinel.

I find it amusing that our governor is now upset with the officials from Palm Beach County because they want to educate the public on the property tax proposal.
This plan is a disaster in the making for every homeowner in Florida.
If anyone with a computer would just go to the Web site tax calculator, they can plug in the information and see that their property taxes are not going to drop like a rock, like our governor states.
Rather, they will go up like a rocket ship.
Thanks to our governor, no one can ever sell their home and move to a new home in Florida if this bill passes. No portability of the Save Our Homes protection will ruin the housing market.
Who in their right mind will buy a home here in Florida knowing our tax assessors will be placing a value on their homes to base the property taxes?
Florida home prices, and thus home values, are dropping, yet the tax assessor claims they are going up. Who should you trust?
I, for one, have the SOH and know I have to retire in another state and leave my friends and family. All due to our hopefully one-term governor.
