Letter to the Editor Blames Media for Housing Market Decline
We’re living in a buyer’s market. That isn’t up for debate. But why is this the case? One letter, paraphrased below, to The Sun-Sentinel suggests one reason for the tilting …
Has it occurred to you that your nonstop media blitz on the housing prices in Florida is actually affecting them?
I’m sure that your newspaper has other news to report than constantly pounding on the real estate market. The more you focus on the subject, the more you influence buyers to wait to buy, feeding into the market problem. They no longer feel a sense of urgency to have a Florida home loan approved.
Remember, sellers and all the people in the real estate market are your readers, too. You are directly impacting their livelihoods. Nothing has dramatically changed from week to week with the market softening, so making huge headlines on it really isn’t as relevant as other news in our area. It is crossing into sensationalism and scaring prospective homebuyers.
It’s an interesting take, but this sounds more like a frustrated, hopeful seller than anything. Newspapers report the news and the state of Florida home loans, prices, inventory, etc. is certainly topics in which the public has major interest.
