Dustin Diamond Battles Foreclosure Order
Dustin Diamond will need more than a bell to save him this time.
The former Saved By The Bell star and current stand-up comedian, who will be forever associated with Screech Powers, his geeky character from the ’90s Saturday morning TV series, is trying to raise $250,000 to save his house from foreclosure.
Diamond was recently evicted from his gray, two-story house in Port Washington, Wisconsin, about 25 miles north of Milwaukee.
The foreclosure order was filed against him last month in Ozaukee County Circuit Court, as the 29-year old tried in vain to settle a land contract dispute with a New York lender. With 30 days to put up the money or hit the bricks, Diamond is trying to sell nearly 30,000 shirts —- at $15 or $20 (autographed) — to supplement the income he makes as a standup comic.
Diamond appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show to plead his case and get the word out about his t-shirts, which say “Save My House” on the front and “I paid $15.00 to save Screech’s house” on the reverse side.
“I’m doing great with my comedy, but this is definitely a low point,” he told Stern. “Real life comes in and affects you.”
The rise in Florida foreclosures over the past few months has been widely covered by mainstream media. It seems that the rise in mortgage rates and cost of living is catching up to people everywhere, even D-list celebrities. Be sure to check out Screech’s official site and get the full rundown of his plight. You can even buy a shirt if you’re so inclined.
