Swanky So. Florida Homes You Can’t Afford!
Rich people are just like us… they buy real estate. Only it’s really expensive. Wondering who’s moving into the most exclusive South Florida mansions and oceanfront hot spots? The ones you hear about, and that you will never, ever afford? The Miami Herald has the scoop in its “Hot Property” feature. See below.
INDIAN CREEK BAYFRONT LOT: $15.5 MILLION
Barry K. Schwartz, the co-founder and former chief executive of Calvin Klein Industries, bought a vacant lot for $15.5 million. The prime lot is at 9 Indian Creek Drive, in the private Indian Creek Village, within the exclusive community south of Bay Harbor Islands. Indian Creek has 38 homes and vacant lots adjacent to the edge of a golf course, which occupies 80 percent of the island. It must be nice… but come on. There’s not even a house on it!
MIZNER-STYLE MIAMI BEACH MANSION: $9.575 MILLION
Another piece of exclusive Miami Beach real estate has been purchased. This time it’s a swanky Mediterranean, Mizner-style waterfront estate at 4420 North Bay Road that went for $9.575 million. The listing price of the 8,666-square foot mansion with five bedrooms and seven baths was initially $10.9 million. The sellers, Ken and Mary Ellen Ubertino of San Diego, had bought the property for $6.7 million in November 2003. The place was sold to Eric D. Sheppard.
DELRAY BEACH LAKEFRONT ESTATE: $8.5 MILLION
An 18,872-square-foot Delray Beach estate on 2.54 acres of land has sold for $8.5 million. The house, which can be found at 16031 Quiet Vista Circle, is in Stone Creek Ranch, a 187-acre community that has 37 lakefront homes and vacant lots — all at least 2.5 acres in size and with water views. At the time of the sale, the price was $12.9 million. The eight-bedroom lakefront Mediterranean style home was built in 2003 but has not been lived in. We’ll take it!
LAVISH BOCA MANSION: $7.335 MILLION
Charles and Patricia Beach — how appropriate — have sold a new mansion in Boca Raton for $7.335 million. The property can be found in the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club subdivision, east of U.S. 1. It has seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and a total living area of 10,060 square feet. This not-so-little chunk of Boca Raton real estate sounds unreal.
HARBOR BEACH PAD: $4.375 MILLION
A Fort Lauderdale home at 2550 Del Lago Drive, in the Harbor Beach subdivision, sold for $4.375 million, after being listed originally for $4.495 million. The seller was Anne W. Hvide, who bought the property for $819,800 a little over 12 years ago. Not a bad profit. The buyer was Thomas D. Hormel of Palisades, Calif. The 1970 home has three bedrooms and 4 ½ bathrooms, with a nice 21,750 square feet and 145 feet of ocean frontage.
FISHER ISLAND CONDO: $3.447 MILLION
BCBG designer Max Azria and wife Lubov Azria have bought a condominium on Fisher Island with an address of 5363 Fisher Island Drive. The Beverly Hills residents paid $3,447,500 — that comes out to $596 per square foot for those keeping score — for the unit. It has 5,790 square feet, three bedrooms and four bathrooms, and was built in 1991.
BAY COLONY HOUSE: $2.4 MILLION
Joseph and Mary Elain Kearn have sold their piece of Broward County real estate — a home in Ft. Lauderdale’s Bay Colony subdivision — for $2.4 million. The buyers of the 20 Compass Road estate are Kevin and Mariette Merrigan. The updated house consists of five bedrooms and 6 ½ bathrooms in 7,193 square feet of living area. What do you even fill that kind of space with? The property has 200 feet of water frontage, too.
Phew. We’re glad that’s over with… these people are ridiculous. Fortunately, there is still a good amount of South Florida real estate up for sale that’s pretty nice — and listed in the six-figure range. In other words, attainable with the help of… wait for it… a Florida home loan.
